Textual Analysis Of The NME Front Cover

The first music magazine I am going to analyse is called ‘NME’. This particular magazine is aimed at teenagers between the ages of fourteen to nineteen, people who are interested in the area of music or people who have heard of this band, which is displayed on the front cover.

The focus of this cover is the large image as it is on the centre of the page and it is bigger than everything else including the text and title. this image is associated with the sub-heading as it tells the targeted audience what the title is. There are nine small pictures of individuals on the top of the cover with the names beneath them. This is not well done because the images look all cramped together and it is hard to focus on one individual image.

The main colours that are applied onto the front cover are yellow, orange and white. These colours are used a lot on the front cover. They contrast well with one another. I would say that the colours are vibrant attention grabbing to the readers, however the front cover looks quite complex because all the images are too close to each other which distracts the reader.

The title of the front cover ‘NME’ does not stand out because the sub-heading is almost the same size as the title. Although the title is supposed to stand out, the sub-heading stands out instead because the yellow used for the text is more shocking and more seeks more attention.

Altogether, I would say that the front cover is too busy and the colours used are not interesting. It looks like they have not tried enough to make the front cover effective to the readers.
